Review King Cave By, Scarlet Dawn

18518269The long-awaited sequel to the bestselling, award-winning King Hall: the revolution is here, but the most dangerous attack may come from within…

The safe, comfortable world of Lily Ruckler and her fellow Mystical Kings and Queens is rocked to the core by the attacks at King Hall. Not only does Lily have to kill the Commoners attacking her people, she also has to assume the mantle of leadership, and bring the surviving Mysticals to King Cave.

It should have been too much, but she is not alone. Ezra becomes her rock, her best friend, the one person who understands. As Pearl and Jack struggle with inconsolable loss, Ezra and Lily work to keep the Mys community safe in their new home, and plan a deadly retaliation.

Their friendship saves them both…but it also draws attention. Whispers. Judgment. It’s not normal for Shifters and Vampires to be friends, and when a horrifying truth is revealed, their relationship morphs from unusual to unspeakable. Lily is good at keeping secrets that could get her killed. Is she willing to risk Ezra’s life as well?

(5 HEARTS!!!)

I am in major withdrawals. Currently thinking about rereading this book I just finished 5 minutes ago again to fill the void.

God it was great. I laughed, I cried, I stayed up till 2 a.m.

Why did it have to end?

Why?

Hopefully it won’t take too long for the next one to come out. The gap between the first and second book was only 5 months so I’m holding out hope that the next book will be here around May.

This one blew me away. It started off right where the last one ended; with bombs raining, people dyeing, and mates falling down unconscious. Our favorite characters Lilly, Ezra, Jack and Pearl have been tasked to get everyone they can rounded up and safely escorted to King Cave. And that’s when the book really took off.

I knew from reading other reviews that Jack and Pearl weren’t going to be in this one as much as the first book. I didn’t really know what that meant though. I was scared that they had run away or refused to talk to anyone like Lilly and Ezra did when their makes died, but thankfully that wasn’t the case. Basically they were in mourning, but were definitely a part of the book. So don’t worry they are still there.

But this was very much Lilly and Ezra’s book. This was the book were they fell in love. Que the tears. It was beautiful. Every kiss, every touch, and every romantic word that we didn’t get in the first book was in this one. Oh God I love them. And I love Scarlet Dawn for writing such amazing characters. Their journey, and the path they took to get to each other was perfect. I could write about this forever. Literally. But I’ll get back to the rest of the book.

Which was also perfect.

Let me tell you, I’m not easily surprised in books. I’ve read so many, that I can usually predict the ending before getting to the second page. But every chapter in this book surprised me. I kept thinking this can’t really be happening, this can’t be happening, but it was happening. It Happened! I had no idea where the book was going to go. I would get to an especially heart stopping part in the book and think, that’s it, this persons dead or going to jail, or is truly done for now, only to be surprised.

And that end. The ENDING!!

WHY GOD WHY?

But even with the book ending the way it did Dawn still managed to give us a little hope for our characters. And I know that they will manage to find their way back to each other somehow.
